Reconciliatory Obituary
Date
Spring 2021
Material
stoneware, underglaze, photolithographic transfers with mason stain ink, clear glaze
These two pots represent our broken relationship with the earth, questioning the path to reconciliation between human and nature. The left, an urn for the grief and pain of the havoc we have wreaked, loudly and boldly proclaims such actions, through local BC newspaper headlines from the 60's to the present. It is closed, leaving no room for discussion, and cracks fester on the surface. The right pot is smaller, more human in its construction, and quietly creates space for listening to each other and earth. Cracks still permeate the surface, but as an acknowledgement of past hurts in an attempt to move forward in a reconciled symbiotic relationship.
